The day had finally arrived. I woke up the morning of March 1st feeling invigorated, knowing that I had accomplished 2 years of sobriety from alcohol. Getting sober after 15 years of alcohol abuse was, by far, one of the most difficult things I’ve had to endure in my life, and to this day I continue to talk myself out of a drink. The voice still exists, and hearing it on a constant basis is something I’ve yet to overcome. Nonetheless, I made my way to work with a smile on my face, feeling as though something monumental was about to happen. On the train, I stared outside the window at the streets of Brooklyn, feeling more ready than ever before to leave this place behind and see the world. I thought about my album, and the reasons I had told myself for why it hasn’t been recorded yet. “It needs to be this way”, or “it needs to be recorded here”. The various locations, styles, and methods I had planned as a part of this recording process had only hindered my ability to execute, and overthinking the process had, once again, consumed me. Inspired by the moment, I logged into my Pirate Studios account, and booked an 8 hour session for that night, with the goal of recording guitar tracks for the entire RAW triple album. With 33 songs on the list, I knew it would be a great feat to accomplish, and I wondered if the callouses on my fingertips would manage to get me through the night. As the workday came to a close, I found my way home, grabbing my guitar and equipment before making a beeline for the door. In the dark room of the studio, I prayed alone, asking for the strength and guidance to make this album the very thing that changes my life, and launches my career into the stratosphere. After 8 grueling hours, ending at the break of dawn, I walked out of the studio with 33 songs recorded, and all the pain associated with the task. The only visuals recorded that night came from a moment in which I wanted to give up, and recorded the pep talk I gave myself in order to keep going.
